“In Their Words”: Katie and Mike’s journey with Huntington’s disease

7:22 MINUTES

Huntington's disease causes deterioration in a person’s physical, mental, and emotional abilities, usually during their prime working years, and currently has no cure. In the beginning stages, family members may notice their loved one experiencing forgetfulness and impaired judgment, and in later stages can develop depression, anxiety, irritability, and anger.

For Katie, her husband Mike's diagnosis and disease progression, particularly its detrimental cognitive impact, led her to advocate and raise awareness for Huntington’s disease. Through her organization, Help4HD, she works to drive change and shares the urgent need for treatment options for future generations.

At Sage, we're working to better understand the underlying reasons for disorders of the brain and central nervous system like Huntington’s disease. We hope science will lead us to a future where no one else experiences the loss of a loved one from this devastating disease.
